A Life Update and Changes

Hello friends. Long time no write.

I didn't make a decision not to blog this semester. I even had posts planned out following my last one in August. Yet I quickly realized I needed a break, and so I silently took it.

I'm a senior now and unsure of what's coming next. I just finished my senior seminar, writing a roughly 100-paged collection of essays about my grandparents' farm in four months. And I just wanted to step away from the blog for a while and reevaluate.

A book blog has been fun, but it's not something I can keep up with in the long term. I love books, but I don't love to write about books. It's time to move on to something different.

So what's changing? At first, not much. The blog's name isn't going to change and for now the design is remaining until I figure out what I want it to look like. But the content will be different.

Short explanation: I'm writing what I want, when I want.

Long explanation: I'm going to use this space as more of a writing hub/exploratory place. A place for me to write about graduating, growing up, changing, and adventuring while also sharing snippets of my creative writing happening in the background. I don't know where I'll be in five months, but I'm sure I'll want to write about it. And so I will. Everything will be more personal, now. More about me (for those of you who have been with me since the beginning, this is Living as a Tiger 2.0.).

So coming up this month are my trips to London and Paris (!!) and any other thing that comes to me along the way.

I hope you'll stick around with me. I think we're going to have a lot of fun.

The Quarterly Update

The Quarterly Review | Scribbling in the Margins blogBack in January, I wrote down my five goals for 2015. I thought today I would revisit how I'm doing so far on those goals and what I need to do to keep moving:

  1. Prepare for a job in 2016. I've made progress in this, simply by realizing I don't have to have a job after college. I could do a long-term paid internship, volunteer for a year, work at Disney. I like the idea of not jumping straight into a job after college, but there's still research that needs to be done.
  2. Read 50 books. Not doing so great on this one. I've only read 9 books out of the 13 I should be at. I know I'll catch up some over the summer, but I need to pick up the pace. Part of it is my lack of interest in books for some reason, but that's a discussion for another post.
  3. Waste less time on the Internet. Cough cough... I'm failing at this. I've got to get better. Any tips?
  4. Consistently post on the blog. LOL we all know how this is going. Again, I haven't been reading much and therefore don't know what to say a lot of the time. I'm in a slump kids, a slump so bad that when I sat down to write about it a couple of days ago I couldn't think of anything good to say.
  5. Run 5 miles. I've been making progress on this goal. I'm up to 2.5 miles right now. I was really excited, because I thought my goal was a 5K, not 5 miles. But if I can make it to a smooth 5K by the end of the summer, I think I can be near if not at 5 miles by December. We'll see!

So, two out of five are going well. That's something! I really need to get on my reading game; hopefully the other two will follow after that :)

How are your New Years resolutions coming along? Any advice for me?

  • If you want to keep up with my writings elsewhere on the Internet, check out my professional Twitter @lesausser. I tweet every time something I write shows up somewhere on the web!
  • Less than four weeks of school left. Terrifying, exciting, and incredibly sad. All at the same time.

Below the Line

Bike in flowers Today is kind of entirely a Below the Line post, and I'll tell you why:

Coming to school has been quite the change for me. I have an entirely new schedule to get used to, a new living arrangement, and new food. I'll be honest with you, I'm struggling to get back into the swing of things. I'm already behind on my homework, and it's the fifth day of school.

I've also had some diet changes thrust at me just this weekend that I'm still trying to process and understand amid all the other changes I'm dealing with right now. I can talk about that later, if you want, but right now even I'm not sure what it all means.

Basically, I haven't had the time I would like to work on this blog. I miss it, trust me- I miss it a lot. But now my madly typing fingers need to focus on nature writing and literature and history analysis.

If things go as planned (fingers crossed!) expect a regular blog post on Friday. But if not, bare with me. I'll get it all worked out!
